Bird watchers and walkers alike can enjoy Marwick Head.Park your car in the car park and enjoy the walk up to the cliffs edge. The seabird colony comprises of razorbills, kittiwakes and guillemots.
Puffins can occasionally be spotted too. Also there is Kitchener's Memorial. A monument built to Lord Kitchener who died when H.M.S Hampshire hit a mine and sank off the coast of Birsay in 1916.
The Broch of Gurness in Evie is on the coast facing Rousay and Eynehallow. It was built in the Iron Age as a fortress, then continued to be occupied by the Picts and then by the Vikings but lastly as domestic dwellings. A worthwhile visit!
Earl's Palace
A short distance away in the village near the Brough of Birsay is the ruins of the Earl's Palace. Earl Robert Stewart built it in the 16th Century.
Aerial View of Brough
A view overlooking the Brough of Birsay, down through Birsay itself and the Boardhouse Loch. The Brough of Birsay is a tidal island and has early Christian and Norse settlements. Puffins can also be seen along the high cliffs. Seals and Eider ducks can often be seen on the shore whilst crossing to the Brough.
Red Throated Divers have some of their nests on Burgar Hill. There is a hide nearby to watch them from. The hide is easily found by watching out for 3 large aero generators that are nearby.
